 Traditional painting

Mendy appeared about 5000 years ago. In Ancient Egypt ladies adornedtheir body and nail pattern. In the XII century it was settled inIndia, becoming not only an ornament. For example, many Arab women believe that mendy bring happiness and protection against failures. So the bride during the wedding picture painted, and the remaining henna buried in the ground to protect marriage and the infidelity of her husband's escape.
Traditional motifs are very different depending on the region:
  • North Africa. Drawing heavily stylized. Particular attention is paid to the application and definition of contours.
  • Middle East. Floral patterns are characteristic of Arab culture. Everyday drawing a simple, sophisticated designs are carried out mainly to ceremonies. Bedouins living in the desert, often just dip your feet and hands in henna, without any decoration.
  • India. Most are performed by temple dancers or solemn ceremonies, mostly to weddings. Fairly complex and large (covering an area of the forearms and palms up on your feet to the knees) lace patterns.  Generally portrayed religious motifs and symbols of fertility. .
In Europe, mendy came fairly recently. This is largely driven by poor attitude of the Christian Church to the pleasures of the flesh and the fact that the henna very quickly deteriorates. But now, henna painting on the body begins to gain popularity because of the henna designs cover a good many well-known singer and actress, such as Madonna, Naomi Campbell, Demi Moore.
